El Sadat: Talking about my presidential nomination is premature

Mohamed Anwar El Sadat, Chairman of the Reform and Development Party, denied rumors linking the current process in the House of Representatives to suspend his membership with talks about his intentions to run for the 2018 presidential elections. El Sadat clarified that President Sisi has nothing to do with what is happening in Parliament, confirming that some Parliament members may exaggerate their show of loyalty to those who helped them enter Parliament (working with some security officials), and try to distort the image of patriotic MPs that carry out their parliamentary role to serve citizens who elected them for a better future.

El Sadat added that he was not surprised by this unjust campaign against him, which aims at silencing voices that speak out about corruption and citizens’ rights. He stated that this is a small price to pay for the sake of our nation and its hard-working people. He added that this is what he learnt from the late President, Anwar El Sadat, whom he was honored to be part of his family and his school of patriotism and sacrifice.

Finally, El Sadat confirmed that he will continue to carry out his Parliamentary role, which entails that he monitors the operations of different state institutions, in addition to questioning government officials on issues of corruption, wasting money and human rights. He added that such attempts of scaring the people’s representatives from performing their jobs that they were elected for will not deter him and that he is more than willing to pay the price.

Long live Egypt and its people.
